Maeve obviously wasn't going to let the vicious kid lay a finger on her.
A split second before Ryan could slam into her, Maeve gracefully sidestepped out of the way.
He was just a child, wildly outmatched by her reflexes.
Having thrown his entire body weight into the sprint, he missed his target entirely and launched himself face-first onto the floor.
Naomi, who had just finished paying, saw the whole thing and went deathly pale.
"Maeve!"
She bolted over, glaring down at the sprawled-out boy.
"What the hell is wrong with you?!"
Ryan had taken a brutal spill. The boutique floor was solid, polished marble, and his head had hit the tiles with a sickening thud.
Rather than crying, the pain only enraged him. He scrambled back to his feet and immediately lunged at Maeve for a second time.
"I'm gonna kill you and your babies!" he shrieked.
Furious, Naomi stepped in front of Maeve and grabbed the boy by his jacket.
"Are you an absolute psycho? How can a kid be this deranged?"
Ryan thrashed against her grip. Realizing he couldn't break free, he sank his teeth viciously into Naomi's hand.
Yelping in pain, Naomi reflexively let him go.
Free again, Ryan locked his sights back on Maeve, violently charging straight for her stomach.
Maeve was far from defenseless.
Before he could even close the distance, she raised her hand and snapped her fingers. The boy froze instantly, plunging into a deep hypnotic trance.
"Alright, kid," Maeve said smoothly. "Why exactly are you doing this?"
Ryan's eyes glazed over as he muttered monotonously, "You hurt me and my mommy. Auntie told me the best way to get back at you is to kill your babies. She said I won't go to jail because I'm just a kid."
Naomi stared at Maeve in pure, unadulterated shock.
Maeve quickly filled her in.
