"Heh..."
One of the officials walked over, urging impatiently, "Ms. Shum, please cooperate."
"Cooperate?"
Serena slammed her phone on the desk. "You want to ruin me? It's not that easy! If I'm going down, I'm taking every last one of you with me!"
She shoved the official aside, rushed to the safe behind her desk, and pulled out a black burner phone.
"What are you doing?" The official sensed something was wrong and tried to stop her.
But Serena had already dialed the overseas number.
The phone rang once, twice, three times...
It connected.
A lazy male voice came through the receiver.
"Who is this?"
Serena swallowed hard, her voice filled with desperation as she shouted:
"I want to see Julian! Right now! Otherwise, I'm sending the books from your Verstein laundry operation to Damien!"
The line went silent for a few seconds.
Then, a soft chuckle.
The man didn't seem angry at all, simply saying one word, "Fine."
*Click.*
The line went dead.
Serena collapsed into her chair, her body limp.
She wouldn't have contacted that person unless it was a last resort.
But she had no other choice.
She had to take the gamble.
