Damien gently pinched her cheek, breaking her out of her thoughts. “Don’t worry, it’s just my grandmother.”
Grace froze for a moment.
Damien’s grandmother?
Was it because of what happened at The Myriad Galleria? Was old Mrs. Clarke here to blame her?
“What, are you afraid she’s going to eat you alive?”
Seeing her tense expression, Damien chuckled softly and took her hand, leading her downstairs. “Relax. She may be old, but she’s not senile. And if things get really bad, I’ll run away with you.”
His words made Grace laugh.
When they got downstairs, they saw Ivy sitting next to old Mrs. Clarke, carefully peeling an orange.
Hearing the sound from the staircase, both of them looked up.
Grace instinctively tightened her grip on Damien’s hand.
“Hey, Grandma.”
Damien led her over and offered a casual, affectionate greeting.
Grace took a deep breath and offered an awkward greeting. “Hello, Grandma.”
Old Mrs. Clarke said nothing.
The old woman studied Grace in a long, heavy silence, her gaze so intense that Grace’s palms began to sweat. Then, the old woman suddenly sighed.
“You’ve lost weight.”
Grace’s eyes immediately started to sting.
“Come here.”
Old Mrs. Clarke beckoned, patting the spot next to her. “Come sit with me.”
Damien let go of Grace’s hand and gave her a gentle push.
Grace walked over stiffly. The moment she sat down, the old woman took her hand.
