She Was the Treasure All Along novel Chapter 780

As the meeting wrapped up, Loyce turned to Hank. "Can I bring a plus-one tonight?"

Assuming she meant bodyguards, Hank nodded. "Sure. The banquet tonight is mostly to negotiate the medical legalization of hallucinogenic mushrooms for the Oceanic Federation. We need to figure out how to carve up that grey-market pipeline. It won't be dangerous, and you can wear a mask. All the ladies will be masked tonight."

Loyce immediately went to find Giselle and told her the plan. She had even bought a beautiful evening gown for her.

Giselle put on the dress. The cut was elegant but conservative, designed perfectly to hide her growing stomach. She looked down at herself, clearly uncomfortable. "Will Karina be there?"

"Most likely, yes," Loyce replied. "And you're probably going to see things you really don't want to see. But if you're entirely committed to leaving him, you need to go."

Giselle gave a firm, determined nod.

Now dressed for the evening, Loyce stopped by Lucian's bedroom. He had been pushing himself through grueling rehab exercises for the past two days, but the progress was agonizingly slow.

When she pushed the door open, he was sitting on the floor, drenched in sweat. As their eyes met, he instinctively looked away, grabbing a towel to throw over his freshly healed, brutally scarred legs.

"You're back," he managed a faint smile, using his upper body strength and his good leg to heave himself back into his wheelchair. "How are things out there?"

Loyce's heart ached. She walked over, took a clean towel, and gently wiped the sweat from his temples. "Everything is going perfectly. Professor Bonick has taken over the lab and will handle the rest of the trials. Once I finish up my business back home, I'll perform the surgery myself. We're going to fix your body."

"Thank you," he murmured, his eyes dimming slightly.

Lucian had been incredibly stoic since the accident, always trying to project optimism. But day after day of relentless physical therapy yielding absolutely zero results was taking a toll. Watching his legs atrophy and losing control of his once-perfect body was a devastating blow to his pride. No matter how hard he tried to hide it, the frustration and darkness were starting to bleed through.
