Felicia's groggy consciousness slowly returned. She realized she wasn't at the Ross family home, but she didn't argue. Sitting up slowly, she let Max help her out of the car.
"Mommy," Anne called out.
Felicia took her daughter's hand, and they walked toward the elevator. Max closed the car doors and followed the two of them.
He had already instructed the staff to draw a bath. "Go take a hot bath first," he told Felicia.
She nodded and headed straight to the bedroom. After her bath, she was just starting to dry her hair when the bathroom door opened. Felicia didn't react, simply keeping the hairdryer aimed at her damp locks.
Max stepped right up behind her and took the dryer from her hand. He adjusted the heat setting. "Let me."
Felicia let her hands drop, allowing him to take over. Her hair was thick and took time to dry completely. He worked meticulously, a comb in one hand and the dryer in the other. His technique was surprisingly skilled. Whenever he had the time, he was the one who dried Anne's hair after her baths, so the motions had become second nature to him.
The bathroom was perfectly still, filled only with the hum of the hairdryer. Ten minutes later, Max switched it off. "All done."
Felicia ran her fingers through her warm hair and stood up. "Thanks."
A faint smile touched his lips. "It's what I should do. You don't need to be so polite."
She gave him a brief look before walking out of the bathroom. Max followed close behind.
A maid happened to be bringing up a soothing bowl of warm honey milk meant to help with the hangover. Seeing them both, she bowed respectfully. "Sir, ma'am, the milk is ready."
