Sydney agreed with Chaim very much and nodded nonstop.
"I'm reluctant to be looked down upon by others and to hear that others say that I'm good for nothing and rely on Julien for everything, but..."
She supported her forehead and smiled bitterly. "But I just find that I have relied on Julien all the time and that I have accomplished few things by myself. It's ironic."
"Don't say that." Luke patted her shoulder. He didn't want to see her doubt herself and become decadent.
Chaim ate some food and then said, "Ms. Raines, you'd better not split hairs."
"What?" She put down her hand from her forehead and looked up at Chaim. "Mr. Houston, what do you mean?"
Chaim raised his hand and interrupted her. "How long have you run Skylight Corporation?"
She didn't know why he suddenly asked her this question, but she still replied without hesitation, "Almost six months."
Then he asked, "Have you ever learned management before you took over Skylight Corporation?"
She shook her head. "Of course, I haven't. I have never been interested in business management since I was a little kid. My father respected my interests and didn't force me to inherit the company. When I was in my teens, he even decided to hire a professional manager to run Skylight Corporation after he retired, so I could pursue my interests and not be tied to the company. However, before my father found a suitable professional manager, he..."
She became gloomy and fell silent.
Chaim touched his chin. "So you took over Skylight Corporation without any preparation, and you had never learned management before that?"
"You're right." She nodded. "To be honest, I basically teach myself to run the company. Luke and Julien have taught me how to run a business, but they have their own business and can't teach me all the time. Much of the time I don't know what I should do. Luckily, I keep Skylight Corporation running, and it hasn't gone bankrupt in my hand."
"As a novice, you're excellent. Although you can't let Skylight Corporation return to its zenith, you have made it run smoothly. It's remarkable. Thus, I advise you not to split hairs. You're reluctant to rely on Mr. Flint because you don't want others to think that Mr. Julien helps you run the company and thus look down upon you, but have you ever thought that you're just a novice instead of an old hand who has learned management for many years?" He looked at her.
She fell into a trance.
Luke blinked. "Mr. Houston, please get straight to the point. Don't keep us guessing."
She nodded in agreement.
Chaim smiled. "Alright, now that you say so, I will cut to the chase. Ms. Raines, I mean that you're just a novice at running a company, not an old hand who has learned business management for many years. Thus, you don't need to burden yourself. You can rely on Mr. Flint without any pressure and seek help from him because you're a novice. Outsiders won't think that it's inappropriate. On the contrary, if you're an old hand but still rely on Mr. Flint, outsiders will speak critically of you and think that you're incapable. In business, people are tolerant of novices, but you have never known about it. From the beginning, you think the business world is harsh from the very beginning, so you don't see the other side of it. Thus, I advise you not to split hairs."
