"Really?" Sydney fixed her eyes on Julien.
Julien nodded. "Absolutely. If you don't believe it, leave it to me."
Sydney didn't say anything and handed the carving knife to Julien.
Julien took the carving knife from her hand, stepped forward and stood in her previous position. Then he picked up the pumpkin, which was like mud after being carved by her. He examined it up and down to think where to start to remedy it.
Sydney didn't know his thoughts. Seeing that he held the carving knife and the pumpkin motionlessly, she thought that he had finally found it not as simple as he had said. When she was about to laugh at him for bragging, he acted suddenly.
Julien held the carving knife with his slender fingers and started to carve the pumpkin quickly. He wasn't like a novice but a skilled carver.
Sydney opened her red lips in surprise. "You look skilled. When did you learn to carve? Did you learn it when you learned cooking?"
After all, ingredients carving was part of cooking.
However, only a few people went to learn it. Only the people who wanted to be chefs of hotels or high-end restaurants learned it.
Only for these chefs, ingredients carving was useful.
Although Julien was learning cooking recently, he just learned homely dishes of various cuisines, not those exquisite main courses.
Thus, Sydney was surprised he knew how to carve ingredients.
"I have never learned it."
Sydney came up to him in surprise. When she saw his moves, she was more surprised. "You have never learned it? Then why do you know how to carve? You look skilled!"
Julien focused on carving the pumpkin and didn't raise his head. He chuckled and replied, "I learned gem carving when I was a high school student."
"Gem carving?"
"That's it." Julien raised his chin slightly. "At that time, I would like to give a special gift to Grandma on her birthday, but I had no idea about it. Zach advised me to send her a gem Buddha."
"I see." Sydney patted her hands. "Grandma likes to collect gem Buddhas. It was a good idea."
Julien nodded. "You're right, but Grandma had collected many gem Buddhas that were all carved by famous carvers. If I sent her a gem Buddha that was carved by a famous carver, it would be the same as her collection, and she wouldn't be surprised."
"To give Grandma a surprise, you went to learn gem carving specially?" Sydney touched her chin and guessed.
Julien smiled. "You're right. Besides that, I couldn't do many things for the condition of my heart and felt myself a wreck. I even had mania. I became whiny, furious and world-weary. Thus, I learned gem carving to prepare the gift for Grandma and calm myself down. Gem carving requires patience and carefulness. If one doesn't have a steady mind, they won't be able to learn gem carving at all."
Sydney bit her lip and asked, "If you hadn't learnt gem carving, your heart would have been overburdened because of mania, and you would even haven't been able to wait until you could have the heart transplant operation, right?"
Julien nodded. "You're right."
Sydney's stomach did a flip-flop. She stepped back, stood behind him, hugged him and rested her head on his strong back.
Julien fell into a trance and stopped carving the pumpkin. Obviously, he was surprised by her move.
