Noticing Sydney listening to their conversation on the phone, Julien gave an imperceptible smile. He then put the phone down from his ear and turned on the speaker.
Immediately, Zach's voice on the phone got louder and Sydney knew Julien had found out about her. She was embarrassed.
She felt ashamed of eavesdropping on Julien's call.
'Anyway, Julien found out that I was eavesdropping on his calls. Now I don't need to eavesdrop. I can clearly hear their conversation.'
Thinking about this, Sydney straightened her body.
Julien turned on the speaker intentionally in order for Sydney to hear clearly. She didn't need to lean her body to eavesdrop on their conversation.
On the other end of the line, Zach didn't know that Julien had turned on the phone's speaker. In response to Julien's question, he smirked, "Jerry's a coward. I thought he would deny everything when I went to him. However, just as I took out the wrench, he was so terrified that his face turned pale and he immediately fell to his knees on the floor. Then he told me everything. Mr. Flint, I guess he had heard that you like to pull people's teeth."
Julien didn't say anything or show any expression.
Sydney's mouth opened in shock, "What? You like pulling people's teeth?"
Luke wasn't shocked. Hearing Sydney's gasp, he turned the game down slightly.
Then he looked up and explained, "Don't you know that, Syd? Julien is very good at pulling people’s teeth." As he said that, he pointed at Julien with his finger.
Julien cast him a quiet, cold glance, and from that Sydney knew Luke wasn't lying.
Sydney looked at Julien in surprise, "What does Luke mean? Can you explain it to me?"
Julien lifted his chin and responded, "You should know that in my position, I have many enemies. Many people are jealous of me and want to bring me down or jeopardize the Flint Corporation. There are even people who spy on me in the company. They're trying to pull tricks behind my back. I can't go easy on them. I have to make them pay, so I learned some skills to punish these people, and pulling teeth is one of them. But I don't just pull anybody’s teeth. I'll only do it to those who betray me and aren't honest with me."
"I see." Sydney nodded indistinctly, "I've never heard you talk about it before."
Julien clenched his fist against his lips and coughed lightly, "I was afraid it would scare you. It is cruel after all. I don't want you to think I'm a cruel man."
"I won't." Sydney smiled and shook her head, "I understand that in your position, you are exposed to all sorts of dangers. If you're not cruel to them, you can't protect yourself, your family, or the company. I totally understand that you have to be cruel sometimes. Don't worry that I'll think of you as a cruel man. I used to be soft, but that doesn't mean I'm soft on everyone. I know when we need to be cruel."
Kindness without principle was stupid, and that could also easily be used to the detriment of those who love him.
Julien's eyes twinkled at Sydney's words. He smiled, "I'm glad you understand."
Sydney winked at him and said, "Well, Zach's still on the phone."
On the other end of the line, Zach heard Sydney's words, and he hastily said, "Ms. Raines, it's okay. Take your time. I can wait."
Zach was worried that Julien was done with him and was about to hang up the phone to talk to Sydney and that Julien would not be happy with him if he interrupted them.
'Mr. Flint will blame me.'
"How can we keep you waiting? You guys go on." Sydney said into Julien's cell phone. Then tugged on Julien's sleeve, signaling Julien to get back to Zach.
Julien compressed his lips. Obviously, he didn't want to get back on the phone, but he had to listen to Sydney. He said to the phone, "Even though he confessed everything, don't go easy on him."
Hearing the coldness in Julien's tone, Zach felt a bitterness inside.
