She had no idea why this criminal was charging toward her.
Perhaps it was because he had been caught breaking the law and was not willing to accept his fate. So, he sought revenge on society, hurting innocent people as a way to vent his frustrations.
There were quite a few such people.
Occasionally, she would come across similar news stories online and feel sorry for those innocent victims who got hurt.
And now, she had become one of those innocent victims herself.
Fortunately, she was in the police station, and Officer Miles was by her side. Otherwise, things would have turned for the worse.
Over there, the middle-aged man, who was pointed by Officer Miles with a gun, instantly changed colors, not daring to advance any further. He stopped moving and raised his handcuffed hands in surrender.
He never expected to be threatened like that when he just tried to go forward and plead for mercy.
It truly was a stroke of bad luck.
Soon enough, the two police officers who had caught up from behind grabbed the middle-aged man and kicked him in the kneecap.
Caught off guard, the middle-aged man collapsed to his knees with a loud thud. The two officers pressed him down, forced his face to the ground, and exerted firm control over him, afraid that he might break free again.
"Don't move!" the two officers warned sternly.
The middle-aged man could only force a bitter smile.
'Move? Can I move in such a state?'
As the man was subdued, Officer Miles breathed a sigh of relief and put his gun away. He coldly looked at the two officers and questioned, "What happened just now? You couldn't even handle one person."
The two officers lowered their heads with guilt, saying nothing.
What could they say?
It was because of their negligence that the prisoner broke free.
"Demerits are given to you this time. If such a thing happens again, don't blame me for transferring you to the traffic department!" Officer Miles reprimanded them, pointing at their noses.
The two officers shook their heads repeatedly, indicating that it wouldn't happen again.
It was a sincere promise.
After all, it would be an affront to their dignity and a source of shame if they let the prisoner escape from their custody.
Everyone would laugh at them.
To restore their pride, they were determined to be more vigilant and avoid making the same mistake.
"Good! Mark your words!" Officer Miles said, his expression still grim. He then turned around, his face softening as he looked at Sydney. "Ms. Raines, are you alright?"
"I'm fine," Sydney replied, putting her hands off her chest and shaking her head with a smile. "Thank you for pulling me out of harm's way."
