Sydney was also worried and low-spirited as if she had gone through something.
"What's wrong?" Julien sat down beside Sydney and held her shoulders, shaking them gently. "Did something happen?"
Shaken by her man, Sydney finally came back to her senses from her trance.
As her eyes lit up, her somber pupils finally regained their shine.
Looking at her man, she slowly smiled and asked, "You're back?"
Julien said yes and asked, "I'm back. It's so late, but you won't sleep. Why are you sitting here? Why not turn on the light? Something happened, right?"
Her man asked a few questions in a row, but Sydney shook her head and sighed, "Nothing happened."
Obviously not believing her, Julien pursed his thin lips slightly. "Would you be like this if nothing had happened?"
Sydney was silent.
She knew she could not hide it from her man.
"Tell me, what happened? Don't hide it from me. You know, I'll be worried," Julien stroked her hair and asked with concern.
Sydney felt warmth in her heart. Her straightened back, which could not straighten up anymore, bent as if its strength had been taken away. She leaned the side of her head against Julien's shoulder and asked, "I came across Brandon and his wife more than an hour ago."
Julien, who was stroking her hair, paused and asked, "Brandon and his wife?"
"Yes."
"Where did you meet them?"
"On my way back from Dad's tomb, I went to a nearby pastry store, hoping to buy something to eat. While I was waiting for the packaging, the couple appeared," Sydney said.
"Did they bully you?" Julien frowned.
"No." Sydney shook her head. "We had a quarrel as usual, but…"
"But what?" Julien immediately became nervous.
Sydney raised her hand and explained, "Seeing the scar on my hand, Mrs. Madden suddenly went insane. She took my hand and asked me where I got the scar and if there was anything on my wrist before the scar appeared. Don't you think…"
Before she finished that, Julien's expression changed slightly.
He suddenly tightened the grip around her waist. As his Adam's apple moved, he asked worriedly, "You told her?"
"Uh?" Sydney raised her head and glanced at him. "What?"
"I mean you told her how you got this scar, right? You also told her there was something on your wrist before the scar appeared, right?" Julien lowered his eyes and said in an obviously unusual tone.
Sydney shook her head and answered, "No, I don't know why Mrs. Madden asked me about these things, nor could I know if there were any traps, so I didn't tell her. I gave her a perfunctory explanation."
Julien stared at her for a long while. Seeing that she was not lying, he then breathed a sigh of relief imperceptibly, regaining some of his calmness.
"That's good," Julien held Sydney's waist tightly and said.
Sydney narrowed her eyes and asked, "I do feel you're quite nervous. You're afraid I've told all this to Mrs. Madden, right?"
She looked at him.
Julien's eyes flickered, but soon returned to normal. With a perfectly calm face, he said, "No. You've just said that you didn't tell her these things because you were afraid she had some schemes. So am I. I don't want you to reveal everything foolishly. If she had held some schemes, but I was not around you, I couldn't be able to help you."
As he spoke, he poked her forehead.
