Her father-in-law and mother-in-law cursed at Jane i n utter contempt for causing the death of their oldest sons. On the other hand, Ben's devious eyes scanned his sister-in-law from head to toe before he went to his parents and proposed to marry Jane. Naturally, his parents agreed. They bought this woman so there was nothing wrong about making the most of it! Though Ben was disabled, deep down he was a vicious beast who tortured Jane mercilessly. Jane, who had been imprisoned in the basement for almost five years at that point had already grown numb. The Madden Family eventually decided to let her out of the basement to marry Ben, seeing that she remained silent as though she had lost her mind most of the time. However, Ben's never-ceasing violence continued, beating Jane to the brink of death every single time. She never cried or begged for mercy. All she wanted was to die. Such days went by until the year she turned twenty-six.
The cranes owned by Ben's family went into accidents and had to pay millions to compensate the victims. The Madden soon found themselves facing a financial crisis and Ben was left with no choice but to take Jane with him to Kidon City to work. Jane worked long hours at the construction site and what little she earned all ended up in Ben's hands. If she tried to resist, he would beat her as he always did. On top of that, he couldn't stand Jane talking to any man at all,
and would grab her by the hair and give her a severe beating if he caught her smiling at any man at all.
Jane had only grown more and more depressed under the daily abuse. Jane had always been fairly attractive and with the brooding beauty that filled her demeanor, she somehow caught the attention of one o f the construction heads in the site. The construction head went to Ben and proposed to buy Jane off for three years in exchange for paying him five hundred thousands. Ben did not think twice before agreeing on the spot, but Jane would rather die than to accept it.
For the very first time in the past years, she screamed at Ben. "Ben Madden, you useless scum! What kind of a man are you?? You are going to hell for selling your wife off!"
Ben had always hated when someone said he wasn't a man or useless. Enraged by Jane's insults, he pulled at her hair and bashed her against the wall in front of all these people in broad daylight. Blood immediately started gushing out of Jane's mouth at the impact, but her sneer remained.
"You are no man! And you will remain so even if you beat me to death! You are not a man! You are not even human. You are just an animal!"
"Keeping running your mouth, you b*tch! What gives you the right to insult me?? Your family actually asked for two million dollars for a woman like you! They were practically selling their daughter! You were sold to me simply because your family only cared about money! Two million! Of course I get to hit you whenever I want, and I'm going to kill you today! Let's see who can stop me!" He turned around and shouted a t the farmers who had gathered around them. "Scram, all of you! I'm teaching my own woman a lesson, this i s none of your business."
With that, he lifted his feet, about to stomp Jane on the head in pure brute force. He didn't intend on actually killing her, but he planned on beating her until she caved and agreed to accept the construction head's offer. However, before he could do so, he was kicked from the side and sent flying backwards. The man who did it squatted down and looked at Jane expressionlessly. "Are...are you okay?"
That was the first time Jane laid eyes on Alex.
