Sneer and raged filled Thalassa’s heart, but not a trace of discontent could flicker across her face. Her hands, though, clenched tight on her lap as she endured the storm of fury and loathing churning within.
Enough words had been spoken, and if Joshua didn't lift his glass to drink, it would appear as a slight against Thalassa's honor.
Joshua had just learned that Thalassa was Lysander's children's mother, and his demeanor towards her was as warm as it was towards Lysander himself.
He couldn't bear the thought of her being upset.
Without hesitation, Joshua raised his glass first.
Thalassa was taken aback, her eyes widening in surprise. She had thought Susan was nothing but a sideshow, orchestrating a farce that neither Lysander nor Joshua would partake in.
She didn’t expect that Joshua would actually lift his glass!
That drink was spiked – it was imperative not to drink it.
"Thalassa, your sister is quite an interesting person." Joshua said with an ambiguous sparkle in his eye, his words laced with intrigue.
His notion of 'interesting' was surely not a compliment to Susan, but a veiled scoff at the absurdity of it all.
As Joshua prepared to sip his drink, Thalassa's heart leaped to her throat. She blurted out, "Mr. Joshua, wait a moment!"
"Hmm? Something else?" Joshua paused, turning his inquisitive gaze towards Thalassa.
Suppressing the panic within, Thalassa snatched the glass from in front of Lysander and said, "Mr. Joshua, you've had quite enough to drink already, and you still need to drive later. I'll take this one for the team – consider it making up for not sharing a drink with you earlier. You don't have to drink."
No sooner had Thalassa spoken than Susan shot her a venomous, warning glare.
