Thalassa never expected Lysander to believe that her escapade with Leopold wasn't an attempt at elopement.
Amelia staggered backward; her eyes glazed over in shock at Lysander's words. A profound sadness swiftly morphed into a rigid mask of indifference.
Her body, fueled by impulse and irritation, suddenly weakened, and she collapsed onto the floor. She landed with a thud that should have hurt, but she felt nothing, staring blankly ahead. Amelia, once filled with clamor, fell eerily silent, as if all life had been drained from her.
Thalassa watched Amelia crumble. Her heart twisted in sympathy and shared anguish.
Leopold's death was a wound in her own heart that had yet to heal.
The once noisy hospital room quieted down. A heavy blanket of sorrow filled the air, pressed down on their chests, and made every breath feel like a burden.
Lysander pulled out his phone and dialed Payton Sinclair. "Payton, please come to the hospital and take Amelia back with you."
Payton had been informed by a servant that Amelia had gone to the hospital from Leopold's villa, which they were supposed to clean. After finding the birth control pills there, Amelia had stormed off to confront Lysander, and of course, the servant had relayed this to Payton.
When Payton heard Amelia was out to see Lysander, he knew she was there to cause a scene and hurried to the hospital.
He was already there by the time Lysander called.
Soon after, Amelia was escorted away by Payton.
The room fell into a brooding silence, but the icy atmosphere that lingered was suffocating, making Thalassa feel as if she were choking.
