The feeling of being constantly cherished melted away the wrath that had been simmering in Lysander's heart.
A trace of a smile curled the corners of his mouth as he pressed his cheek against Elowen's tender face. The soft, squishy sensation was like a balm to his soul.
No wonder Thalassa loved to snuggle with the kids.
"Ouch, that's prickly," Elowen complained, her neck retracting slightly as Lysander's stubble brushed against her. She shook her little head to dodge his scratchy cheek and patted his face with her small, chubby hands.
"Daddy, why do you have hair on your face? It's so prickly," she said, touching it tentatively before quickly withdrawing her hand.
"It's called a beard, sweetheart," Lysander replied gently. "Daddy didn't shave yesterday."
Lysander's beard grew fast, necessitating daily shaves.
Skip a day, and you'd be dealing with a prickly five o’clock shadow.
Burning with fever last night, he had chased after Thalassa and the children until this afternoon, without a wink of sleep.
The exhaustion, compounded by the ordeal, only accelerated the growth of his stubble.
"Then go shave, Daddy. Beards aren't handsome, and Mommy won't like it," Elowen chimed, kicking her legs, ready to hop out of his arms.
Lysander paused, looking at her for a few seconds before agreeing, "Alright."
He bent down, placed Elowen on the ground, and made his way to the bathroom.
Upon his return, his face was clean-shaven, accentuating his handsome features and giving him a distinguished demeanor.
"Wow, Daddy's back to being handsome Daddy!" Elowen clapped her little hands joyfully upon seeing him, brightening the mood.
Lysander gave Elowen a tender glance before his gaze landed on Atticus' cute, boyish face. "Atticus, come with me for a minute."
With that, Lysander led the way to Atticus' room.
