Thalassa's breath hitched for a moment as she rose from her seat. "The client has already purchased the stocks. My work is done for today, Mr. Ethan. I'm heading out."
She couldn't stay a minute longer. In a room with Susan and Lysander, it felt like a thorny prison.
Without another word, she turned to leave.
"Stop!" Lysander's deep voice echoed. Though just one word, the sheer authority in it was impossible to ignore.
Thalassa paused mid-step, closed her eyes, and took a deep breath to compose herself before turning back with a professionally courteous smile plastered on her face. "Mr. Sinclair, is there something else?"
"Join me for a round of golf. If you play well, you can leave," Lysander stated.
"Mr. Sinclair, I'm quite the golfer myself. I could join you for a game," Susan volunteered eagerly, her words laced with an urgency that betrayed her wish for Thalassa to leave immediately so she could stay with Lysander.
"Indeed," Lucy chimed in, bolstering her daughter's claim. "We've had Susan in golf lessons since she was a child. She's attended quite a few courses, you know."
Lucy cast a superior glance at Thalassa and continued, "Our Susan is not like some country bumpkins who have nothing but the smell of the farm about them and no real skills to speak of."
They had invested in Susan's upbringing with the intention of her mingling with the elite, sharing their interests, and cultivating relationships with the wealthy bachelors.
Oh, this family was quite the spectacle, Thalassa thought, flaunting their supposed nobility while stepping on others they deemed beneath them.
