Callum's smile faded, and a shadow seemed to dance across his eyes, casting a solemn hue over his usually gentle features.
Unaware of the shift in his demeanor, Thalassa picked up her fork and said, “Let’s eat. I’m starving.”
She forked a piece of fish, tasted it, and nodded in approval. “It’s good. Not too salty, not too bland. Just perfect.”
Noticing Callum hadn’t started eating, Thalassa asked politely, “Mr. Gordon, why aren’t you eating? Is something wrong with the food?”
Callum's eyes softened, masking the earlier intensity, and he smiled warmly. “No, I was just lost in thought for a moment.”
With that, he picked up his fork, deliberately avoiding the fish and opting for other dishes instead.
After dinner, Evelyn mentioned she needed to rest, so Thalassa linked arms with her as they made their way to the hotel elevator. Their rooms were on the 20th floor, so they'd have to ride up.
Callum also decided to retire, and the three of them stepped into the elevator together. Thalassa pressed the button for the 20th floor.
Callum hadn’t made a move to select a floor for a while, so Thalassa turned to him, “Mr. Gordon, aren’t you going to press your floor?”
“I’m staying on the 20th floor, too.” he replied.
“Oh, I see. Most of the guest rooms are on the 20th floor, aren’t they?” Thalassa said with a friendly smile.
“That seems to be the case.”
They chatted until the elevator halted on the 20th floor. Thalassa and Evelyn walked towards their room, while Callum, leaning on his cane, trailing behind them. “Which room are you in? May I have a look?” he offered.
“This way,” Evelyn guided.
Thalassa swiped her key card and they all entered the room. Callum followed, asking, “Do you mind if I come in and sit for a bit?”
“Of course not, come in!” Evelyn welcomed him heartily.
