The police hauling Bruce pulled him to his feet and dragged him toward the detention center.
Outside the precinct, Captain Payne said to Evelyn, "I'll have a squad car take you home."
Evelyn snapped back to reality, "No need, I'll just hail a cab. I've got cash on me, really, it's no trouble at all."
Fear crept into Evelyn's voice. She wanted nothing to do with the likes of Bruce, and she was even more reluctant to get entangled with the police.
Captain Payne read the panic in her eyes and didn't press the issue. After all, with Bruce behind bars, Evelyn was safe.
"Alright then, take care on your way," Captain Payne said before turning back to the station.
Evelyn walked to the curb and flagged down a taxi. Instead of heading to Star Harbor Villa, she directed the driver to the Vibrant Oasis Residences, eager to check in on her old card-playing friends.
It was a coping mechanism for Evelyn. Whenever she was down or didn't want her daughter to worry, she'd find solace in a game of cards.
Meanwhile, inside the precinct, Lysander glared in disgust at the bloodstain on the floor and the single drop that had marred his shiny leather shoes during his altercation with Bruce.
He felt revolted.
David noticed Lysander's aversion to Bruce's blood and quickly offered, "Mr. Sinclair, I'll fetch you a new pair of shoes from the car."
Lysander was a man often on the move for work, so he had kept a spare set of clothes and shoes in his vehicle.
Shortly after, David presented Lysander with a fresh pair of shoes.
Lysander swapped out the blood-spattered pair and, with a cold glance at David, commanded, "Throw away this pair."
With that, he strode out of the police station.
