The presence of one person had driven a wedge between mother and daughter, a thorn in their hearts that hurt with every touch.
Rosalind and Matilda, along with the doctors and nurses, wheeled Joshua into a hospital room. His injuries weren't severe, so he was placed in a regular room instead of the ICU.
Matilda asked the doctor, "What can he eat when he wakes up?"
"Some light, easily digestible food," the doctor replied.
"Okay, thank you," Matilda said with evident tension.
"No problem, call us if you need anything."
Thalassa made her way to the hospital lobby when a pregnant woman holding a medical report stopped her in her tracks.
Thalassa tried to sidestep her, but a glimpse of the woman's face brought a surprising sense of familiarity that made her do a double-take.
The woman was beautiful, dressed in elegant maternity wear, her belly prominently displayed, indicating late pregnancy.
Thalassa gasped, "Su, Amelia..."
If she wasn't mistaken, this was Amelia! Leopold's mother! And she was pregnant!
Three years ago, Amelia was forty-five, which made her forty-eight now. And yet, she was expecting!
Seeing Thalassa's shock, Amelia's lips curled into a wry smile, her eyes still carrying a deep-seated hatred. "Don't call me Aunt, you're not worthy!"
Thalassa felt her heart sink. Amelia still harbored hatred for her, evident in her spiteful gaze.
"Three years ago, my son died because of you. Three years later, I meet you again, this harbinger of bad luck. I hope my baby learns to recognize you and steers clear!" Amelia's words were sharp as she turned and walked away, hand on her belly.
