"Oh, and there's something else I wanted to ask you," Thalassa said, her voice casual as she tried to mask the resentment she felt towards Bruce.
"What is it?" Bruce was reveling in the implications of Thalassa's earlier words that she was doing well by Lysander's side and earning him some money.
Having a daughter like her was truly a blessing. Without spending a dime on child support, he was now reaping the rewards she brought in.
Bruce felt like the luckiest man on Earth.
Lysander was a big shot in Starhaven, the head of the Sinclair family, one of the wealthiest families around. His pockets were so deep and inexhaustible.
Thalassa was now his woman and the mother of his child. It would be a piece of cake if she wanted money from Lysander.
And Bruce, without exerting any effort, could enjoy the money Thalassa received from Lysander. Life was sweet!
"I heard from my mom that you used that billion to buy a mansion?" Thalassa asked, feigning nonchalance as she waited for his response.
Before he could answer, Thalassa continued, "Don't get me wrong, I'm not blaming you. I just want to know if it's true. If Lysander asks about it, I need to be able to tell him where the money went. He'd be more inclined to give me more if he knew it was being put to good use. Don't you think?"
"Yeah, yeah, you're right. If he knows the money's being put to good use, Lysander will be more willing to give you more. Otherwise, he might think you haven't spent the money he's already given you," Bruce agreed over the phone.
"Right, I did buy a mansion. That old hag's forced me to do it. You know how much I care about your mom, Thalassa. I want to build a family with her as a way to make up for the years I've neglected you," Bruce said, sounding like he had no other choice.
Thalassa got goosebumps at his words. Bruce was a compulsive liar, and his hypocrisy knew no bounds.
"Well, it’s fine if you had bought it. It's just a billion, after all. Whose name is on the property papers?" Thalassa continued, maintaining her indifferent tone.
"I haven't signed the papers yet. I paid for it the night before last and I was planning to sign the papers yesterday, but the guy who sold me the house had an emergency. He said we could sign the papers today," Bruce answered, hoping to win Thalassa's favor.
"That's perfect. I was thinking of paying you to temporarily change the name on the property papers to mine. I could then show Lysander that I bought a house with the billion, and then ask him for three billion more for regular expenses. Since you haven't signed the papers yet, I'll go with you today and put the property in my name," Thalassa said cheerfully.
"What?" Bruce was taken aback. His tone was one of alarm, as if he'd heard something unbelievable.
Thalassa patiently explained, "It's just a temporary change. Once I show Lysander the contract and he sees that I bought a mansion, he'll believe me and give me the three billion. Without proof, he wouldn't believe me. Once I get the three billion, I'll transfer the property back to you."
“Well…” Bruce hesitated.
