It was a tone she was familiar with, her own ringtone. Her phone was on the bedside table, within arm's reach. Temporarily letting go of her children, she picked it up and saw her boss, Ethan's name on the screen.

She swiped to answer.

Before Thalassa could even offer him a greeting, Ethan's voice filled the room. “Thalassa, just stay home and rest. Don’t worry about coming to work until you’re fully recovered.”

Thalassa was taken aback. How did Ethan know she was hurt?

She had taken a day off yesterday, but she hadn't informed Ethan about her injury.

Thalassa was not one to take advantage of other people’s kindness. She had injured herself while hiking on her day off. How could that be considered a work-related injury?

“Mr. Ethan, how can this be considered a work-related injury? You should still deduct my salary for the day.”

“Any injury that occurs during your employment period is considered work-related. I need to head into a meeting now, so take care. Goodbye.” With that brief explanation, Ethan hurriedly ended the call.
