Thalassa’s hair was a little tousled under his touch. She attempted to dodge his hand but froze in place.
Because she seemed to see a shed of tears shimmering under the reflection of the glistening lake in his amber eyes.
His words made her heart sink heavily; a dull pain spreading from her chest inhibited his breath.
She understood very well the meaning of Leopold's words.
If it weren't for him visiting her house during that summer vacation, she wouldn't have been locked in the barn by Isabella, and Lysander wouldn't have taken advantage of her vulnerability.
And he wouldn't have been drugged by Isabella. That incident wouldn’t have happened as well.
If it weren't for that accident, they would have been together long ago.
He still hasn't gotten over it.
Thalassa felt heartbroken; she had told him so much before to urge him to let go of the past and start a new life, but he remained stuck in his past, unwilling to struggle out.
Anything else she said now seemed redundant.
Thalassa didn't respond directly, but stared at him for a while. At this moment, the breeze brushed past her cheek and carried a humid warmth; the fresh scent of water lilies seemed to bring them back to their youthful days.
Suddenly, Thalassa thought of her four kids as well as Lysander's domineering and cold demeanor.
She quickly came back to her senses. She stood up and said, "It's getting late and I need to get back to the office."
Leopold stood up with her, blocking her path with a smile on his face, "I was just joking with you. Don’t be scared."
