Elowen was still terrified, clinging to Evelyn's leg and crying.
Evelyn, still shaken, crouched down and scooped both Elowen and Sophia into her arms. Elowen was sobbing, and Sophia timidly burrowed into Evelyn's embrace.
With a pang of sympathy, Evelyn kissed their little heads and comforted, "Granny's little angels, don't cry, the bad man is gone, and there's nothing to be afraid of."
Thalassa took a deep breath, allowing the tension in her heart to ease a bit. She pulled out her keys and unlocked the door.
Holding Atticus and Dorian's hands, she walked in.
Evelyn, cradling Elowen and Sophia, followed suit.
Turning around, Thalassa shut the door and even double-locked it, fearing that Bruce might come back.
"Mom, I'll help you find a new place to live soon. This place is not safe," Thalassa suggested, referring to the constant trouble caused by Bruce and his kin. By moving and not disclosing the address, they would be safer.
Evelyn sighed, "Moving from one rented place to another, we're always in a state of displacement."
Thalassa lowered her gaze, feeling a pang of guilt. She was still unable to afford a house, causing her mother to share her nomadic existence.
"Just give me a few years to save up, and I'll buy you a house. For now, we'll have to make do. I'll start house-hunting tomorrow," Thalassa promised.
Evelyn didn't respond, simply patting Elowen's back and stroking Sophia's head to soothe them both.
"Mommy, who was that man? Was he really Grandpa?" Dorian tilted his little head, his innocent eyes full of curiosity as he looked at Thalassa.
At the mention, Evelyn, too, wore a bemused expression, casting a quizzical gaze at Thalassa.
