"Austin, let’s try to be nice and give him a chance."
Dorothy felt the drama had unfolded enough, so it was time to reel it back in. She intervened, then shot George a look, signaling him to leave at once.
Once George hastily left, Austin's expression shifted from seething anger to a broad and beaming smile.
"Ms. Sanchez, I admire you!"
"What's there to admire? He was simply after more money, so it was obvious a threat of jail would calm him down." Dorothy glanced at the clock. "Austin, I have to go. Someone's waiting for me."
Austin chuckled. “Oh, is your husband in Everglow City?"
"Yes." Dorothy nodded and added, "He doesn't have much time, so I better go."
"Sure, go ahead. Next time, bring him along. Let's grab a meal together."
Laughing, Dorothy nodded and left in a hurry.
To the world, she had to claim to be in a committed relationship. Firstly, because she had a child, and if she claimed otherwise, it would stir up speculation about her child's father. What if someone pointed towards Everett? God forbid!
Secondly, it served as a deterrent for men in the workplace who tried to hit on her. She didn’t have the time or energy to entertain them. She just wanted to focus on her work and earning as much money as possible; nothing else mattered.
Once in her car, Dorothy called Karen.
"Where are you?"
"At the night market! There's a street performer here, who Abigail and I are nearby. Are you done with your work?!"
The night market was incredibly noisy, so Karen had to raise her voice just to be heard.
Dorothy had been to the night market only once, so she had a vague memory of the place.
"I'm done. I’m on my way now. Keep your phone handy; I'll call you if I can't find you."
"Sure!"
