The CEO's Hidden Love: Midnight Temptations and Deep Desires novel Chapter 269

Everett's voice had such a commanding tone that even his old friend, Jeffrey, was taken aback by his demeanor.

"Her mother passed away."

Everett rose abruptly from his chair. "When did that happen?"

"It's been a while…" Jeffrey didn't want to lie to him, so he left his statement vague to prevent Everett from probing further.

In truth, Jeffrey had a hunch about Dorothy's mother's death, even though he wasn’t directly involved.

He wasn't intentionally keeping things from Everett; it was just that...that… the opposing party was his own mother! Even if Everett knew, what could he do? Apart from his endless regret and guilt towards Dorothy, he wouldn't be able to do anything else. It was better if he remained in the dark.

"How did you find out about this?" Everett immediately sensed something was off.

He had asked Kevin to investigate any news about Dorothy for years, but he always came up empty-handed. If he hadn't run into her by chance, he would still be clueless about her whereabouts. Yet Jeffrey knew about her mother's passing?!

That meant Dorothy’s mother must have passed away four years ago, before she left the Lopez Corporation, possibly even before she filed for divorce.

"I ran into Dorothy. She told me, and she asked me not to tell you. I didn't think it was a big deal, so I didn't tell you." Jeffrey shrunk back, fearing that any more might lead to a hard-to-cover lie. Anyway, I have some business to attend to. Don't think too much about it. Dorothy was the one who left you first. Her mother's situation wasn't your fault, so why bother?"

With that, he darted away, as if someone were after him.
