"Okay, I'm on it!"
The hospital director didn't dare to ask further. He quickly called his subordinates to get the files.
There was no talk of privacy now. After all, if he offended Everett, it was hard to say if this hospital would still be around or not.
Everett sat silently in a chair, the air around him so tense that it seemed to solidify. Nobody in the room dared to even breathe.
The silence was finally broken by the ring of a cell phone.
It was a call from Amanda.
Everett had already hung up on her once, but she had called back.
So he answered on the second ring.
"Mother."
"You remember I'm your mother, do you? Why did you hang up on me?" Amanda accused. "Now you don't even want me as your mother, is that it?"
Everett's eyebrows furrowed, and he had a hunch about what was happening.
Only Heather could have brought his mother into this.
"Is there something you need, Mom? I'm busy."
"Busy? Busy looking for a child that might not even be yours?"
"Right." Everett saw no need to hide. He admitted outright, "If he looks like me, he might be my son, and I have to find him."
Amanda was so angry that she wished she could fly home now.
"The Lopez family does not acknowledge bastards! Don't give me that nonsense. You really want to piss me off, don't you?"
