Everett couldn't pick up on that.
It was clear that Amanda was not willing to understand his perspective.
"And what's wrong with Heather? What is it that you don't like about her? Look at her! She's beautiful, talented and capable. What's not to love?"
"Her character."
"And Dorothy's character is better, is it? Let's not forget, she only agreed to marry you for your money! Can you still say she has a good character when she sold herself for cash?" Amanda had done her homework. She knew that Dorothy had agreed to marry Everett to secure funds for her mother's medical bills.
It all boiled down to money.
"I think Dorothy's character is good, and that's all that matters. I don't need anyone else's judgement."
"You..."
"Mom, I won't marry Heather." No matter how many times he had to repeat himself, he did not mind doing it again.
"Then I’m not your mother!" Infuriated, Amanda hung up the phone.
Everett frowned tightly. He knew upsetting his mother would inevitably lead to sleepless nights and hospital visits for her. There was even a risk of losing her.
He didn't want that. But he also didn't want to betray his own heart.
As he put down his phone, a doctor rushed over with some documents in his hand.
"We've got the results, Mr. Lopez. We've got them!"
...
Heather didn't know who else to turn to, so she called Amanda.
She knew that having Amanda order Everett to marry her wouldn't work. But at least she could help Heather get through this difficult period.
