His childish words warmed her heart.
She turned off the room light. The mother and son hugged each other, falling asleep.
The moon outside the window was rising higher and higher, and the night was getting darker and darker.
However, Eileen's body became hot, burning like a stove.
She groaned, feeling uncomfortable.
Brad slept lightly, aware that his mom was wriggling.
He stretched out his short hand and turned on the light.
He then saw her face was red. He gently
touched her forehead with his palm.
Instantly, his eyes widened!
It was so hot!
Just wrapped in a bath towel, he rolled out o f bed, found his cell phone in his schoolbag, and called Luke. "Dad, Mom is running a fever. Her forehead is so hot!"
At the sound of his voice, Luke was roused from his sleep. He bounced up, pulled his trousers over, and put them on. "Put on your clothes. I'll be right there!"
When he left in the afternoon, she looked unwell. Afraid that no one would take care o f her at night, he let Brad stay there.
Every night he needed the medicine to fall into a dreamless sleep, but he didn't dare to take it tonight.
He was scared that he couldn't wake up if
Brad had any urgent matters to tell him.
It was two a m. There were few cars on the road.
Luke pressed down on the gas pedal and ignored the traffic lights in front of him.
Eileen’s apartment was an hour's drive away, but he arrived in half an hour.
He stood outside the door with messy hair and an anxious look, knocking gently on the door.
Brad was alert, asking, "Is it Dad?"
"Yes, open the door!"
Only then was the door opened. Luke rushed in like a whirlwind.
