A Journey from Bitterness to Truth (Matilda and Yvan) novel Chapter 753

Who knows what the future holds?

The man chuckled with a hint of mystery in his eyes. Glancing in the rearview mirror, he noticed the car that had been tailing them made a U-turn and left. Tapping the steering wheel with his fingers, he finally felt at ease to speed up and drive Matilda back to her place.

...

Meanwhile, in another car, the atmosphere was noticeably tense.

Yvan wore an expression as grave as if he had stepped out of a Victorian drama, mourning the loss of his beloved. His handsome face drooped, and his eyes practically spelled out "I'm in a foul mood today." Carl, driving next to him, could feel the barometric pressure dropping.

"Mr. Boyd..." After a long pause, Carl decided to tread lightly, "Mr. Boyd, is something bothering you?"

Yvan took a deep, frustrated breath. "Extremely bothered!"

Carl's grip on the steering wheel tightened in shock. "But... wasn't it you who told me not to follow Matilda's car? I did as instructed, and now you're upset?" Just moments ago, Yvan was adamant about shadowing Matilda to her home, suspicious of Mark's intentions, demanding Carl to follow them all the way... only to change his mind halfway through and decide to head back.

Yvan was so irritated he wanted to throttle Carl, but then he remembered that it wasn't fair to take his anger out on his subordinate. Instead, he slapped his thigh, grumbling, "Matilda went off with Mark. That's why I'm upset."

Carl's voice grew fainter, "But if Matilda doesn't go with Mr. Walker, she... she wouldn't necessarily be going with you, right...?"

He swore he made the snide comment under his breath...

Yet Yvan caught it instantly, his face turning stormy. If they weren't in a moving vehicle, Carl was sure Yvan might actually try to strangle him. Sure enough— "Do you believe I could kill you right now?"

Carl sat up straight, "Mr. Boyd, I swear my loyalty to you is unwavering and sincere, with no intention of betrayal."

Yvan was seething, "What was I thinking when I hired you?"
