Jason seemed to understand why she had said such harsh words to him before.
It was because she was afraid that if he saw her after she had passed away, he would feel sad and guilty, so she drove him away.
His Eleanor never changed, always thinking of him even in death.
But he thought she had fallen in love with Bernard and that's why she became so cold-hearted towards him.
Deep guilt overwhelmed him completely, making his hand tremble as he held hers.
Eleanor felt his helplessness and gently squeezed his hand. "Garett, will you go back?"
Jason touched her pale face and whispered softly, "Eleanor, no matter what you say this time, I won't leave. I will stay by your side forever."
The word "forever" was too heavy for her to bear, but she didn't want to hurt him.
She inhaled deeply to relieve her breathlessness, then said, "Garett, I'm too tired to talk. Can I just rest for a while?"
Jason nodded with a sense of heartache and asked cautiously, "Alright, you rest. Can I stay by your side?" He seemed afraid that she would push him away again.
Eleanor responded with a gentle nod and closed her eyes. Jason took a seat by the bed, remaining motionless as he stared at her pale face.
Once she had fallen asleep, he retrieved his phone and dialed Tyler's number. Tyler, currently tangled up with Liana in the dean's office, was taken aback when he saw Jason's call. Since their last text exchange, he hadn't received a response from Jason. Thus, he felt somewhat delighted that Jason had initiated contact.
Quickly excusing himself from Liana, Tyler answered the call, saying, "Hey, Mr. Clowers, what can I do for you?"
Jason asked with gravity, "Can you treat heart failure?"
Tyler immediately understood whom Jason wanted to save upon hearing the question, so he inquired, "Is there a compatible donor?"
With a helpless sigh, Jason released his clenched fist and replied, "No..."
Taking a moment to contemplate, Tyler responded solemnly, "Mr. Clowers, without a compatible donor, even God can't save her. I'm sorry."
Jason weakly uttered, "It's alright," before ending the call. He gazed at the bed with his once vibrant eyes gradually losing their color, consumed by despair.
Hailey had prepared the water long ago, but she wasn't in a hurry to go back.
