Bernard turned to gaze at her uniquely beautiful face, hesitated for a few seconds then let it out.

Bernard finally understood. Eleanor had been too busy to pay him attention. Bernard, who'd been overthinking things lately, felt a weight lifted off his heart once he knew the reason. His mood, once in the dumps, was back on cloud nine, and his downturned lips deepened into a smile.
