After Divorcing my Captain Husband (Chloe and Michael) novel Chapter 559

At that moment, Chloe felt as if she was caught in a movie scene.

She thought, "No wonder Candy has a thing for Wesley; with a man like him, who wouldn't? Unlike those around me..."

Chloe glanced at Michael, who was still glued to her side, and then at James, who was fiddling with the fireworks on the other side.

She couldn't help but think that both of them seemed to have their own quirks.

The square was crowded, buzzing with noise, and the fireworks continued to burst overhead.

Wesley stood beside Michael, his tone laced with skepticism. "You really splurged on this. Does she even know?"

He was referring to the extravagant fireworks display Michael had arranged specifically for Chloe.

Michael stuffed his hands in his pockets, watching Chloe a few feet away as she focused on lighting more fireworks. Though the day hadn't turned out exactly as he'd envisioned, it didn't seem too bad.

He shook his head. "She doesn't need to know. If she knew, it would just add to her stress. I'd rather she thinks it's just a public event she's part of."

Wesley clapped him on the shoulder. "You spent hundreds of millions just to see her smile, and you don't regret it? Not even a little?"

In the past, Michael would have done anything to make sure Chloe knew what he did for her.

Even if it was just buying her a snack, he wanted to hear her praise.

But somewhere along the way, that had changed, maybe starting today.

As long as Chloe was happy, whether or not she knew it was him behind it all didn't matter.

Above their heads, the spotlight rig was loosening. With the fireworks booming, no one noticed until it crashed down.

Michael saw that Chloe was crouching right beneath the rig while lighting fireworks.

His heart was in his mouth. "Chloe!"

At the sound of his voice, Chloe instinctively looked up, feeling as if something was descending upon her.

She saw Michael sprinting toward her like the wind.

Candy, Quinn, and the others were also rushing to her side.

Confused, Chloe barely had time to react before a thunderous crash erupted above her head.

She froze, her eyes widening as she saw James standing next to her, holding up the spotlight rig and casting a shadow over her.

"Get out of here, now!"

Just then, the fireworks display, which had been going on for over half an hour, finally ceased. Apart from the tourists' screams, the only sound was the crackling of the spotlight rig on James' shoulders.

Chloe finally snapped back to reality. "James!"

As soon as she moved away, James heaved the rig to the ground with a grunt.
