After Divorcing my Captain Husband (Chloe and Michael) novel Chapter 564

Quinn's eyes locked onto hers, and as they stared at each other, Chloe didn't look away. She looked confused, unsure of what he wanted to say.

After a long silence, it was Quinn who finally gave in.

"Chloe, is there nothing you want to tell me?"

After Chloe and Michael had left earlier, he had been standing with Jessica and Candy when Candy accidentally let something slip, so now he knew everything.

That was why, after dropping Jessica off, he rushed back here.

He even ran up the stairs.

Chloe hesitated, suddenly remembering that she had planned to tell him about her plans to leave the country after the fireworks display.

But with everything that happened, she had forgotten entirely.

She was about to speak, but Quinn beat her to it, his voice growing more emotional. "Did you not think about me at all? You're leaving the country. Why didn't you tell me? I was the last one on the team to find out."

Chloe blinked. "Uh... actually, Jessica was the last to know."

She hadn't planned to tell Jessica at all.

Quinn sighed in exasperation. "Chloe, have you never considered me as one of your own?"

"Of course not!"

Chloe grew a bit agitated. She hadn't told him because she didn't know how to say it.

Although her plans to leave the country were set, whether she would return or when was still undecided.

And now that Chloe knew about his feelings for her, she was even more at a loss for how to bring it up.

They both fell into silence, the air between them heavy.

Chloe took a deep breath to gather her thoughts, then spoke first, "Quinn, it was wrong of me not to tell you sooner, and I apologize for that. But you and Candy have always been my closest friends, my support system!"

"I admitted to myself that sometimes, people take their closest friends for granted.

When you open up completely to someone, it's easy to start assuming that they'll always understand and tolerate you simply because you believe they'll never leave.

It wasn't a good habit, but it's something that happens in relationships. Though it was never my intention," Chloe thought.

Now that she was aware of it, Chloe wanted to correct it immediately.

But then Quinn interrupted her, "But I don't want to be just your friend."

Chloe's breath caught, and she looked at him in surprise.

Quinn looked into her eyes again. "Chloe, I like you. I've never wanted to just be friends with you!"

Now that the truth was out, Chloe found herself at a loss.

She rubbed her hands together on her lap, an awkward smile on her face. "Quinn, don't joke around. We've known each other for so long, how could..."

"I've liked you since the first time we met. You think we've been friends for a long time, but for me, it's been a long time of secretly loving you."

Chloe opened her mouth, but no words came out.

"I fell for you when you saved me, when you gave me a second chance to control my own fate. I wasn't good enough for you—I was just a poor student with nothing to my name. That's why I worked so hard to improve myself, so I could be worthy of you."

Quinn was speaking more than he ever had before, but he wasn't done yet.
