After Divorcing my Captain Husband (Chloe and Michael) novel Chapter 573

Chloe did not know how to explain it to him, so she remained silent.

Seeing her unwillingness to talk, Michael did not press further. Instead, he tried to reassure her. "Do not worry, I will get you there as quickly as possible."

Chloe nodded, watching the scenery blur past, her mind in turmoil.

As soon as the car stopped in front of the hospital, Chloe opened the door and dashed out, startling Michael. He braked hard, watching her run into the hospital without looking back. He quickly locked the car and followed her, concerned about her condition, especially since she was pregnant.

Outside the operating room, Chloe, still catching her breath, confronted the doctor. "Did you not say the surgery was scheduled for tomorrow? Why was it suddenly moved up?"

Smith had mentioned the surgery was timed to coincide with James' flight.

Now, it was happening more than ten hours earlier.

"The patient's condition has become critical. He experienced respiratory failure. Waiting any longer would significantly lower the chances of a successful surgery and increase the risk to his life."

The doctor's words echoed in Chloe's mind.

She quickly decided, "Then start the surgery now. What are you waiting for?"

"The patient is in a coma and unresponsive. We need a family member to sign a liability waiver."

Chloe felt a pang of anxiety. "If the patient is in critical condition, why are you here discussing a liability waiver with me instead of performing the surgery?"

Chloe understood it was hospital policy, but the only person who could legally sign was James.

With James absent, she could not sign anything.

If she contacted James, it would ruin Smith's request to keep everything under wraps, potentially preventing James from leaving for Mamaica.

What should she do?

Chloe felt like a cat on a hot tin roof, utterly helpless.

The doctor asked again, "Are you a family member of the patient?" Chloe frowned and shook her head. "I am not."

She could not vouch for Smith at all.

Just then, Michael appeared behind Chloe, saw her talking to the doctor, and immediately walked over to pull her into his arms.

"The patient has no spouse or children. Only the patient himself can sign for it himself."

Chloe looked up at Michael, feeling stunned.

Smith had never married and had no children. James was the son of Smith's good friend, and their relationship was more like that of foster father and son.

However, when James' father passed away, James was already an adult and in college, so there were no legal guardianship transfers between James and Smith.

Smith was, in effect, a solitary figure.
