Congratulatory handshakes were exchanged as champagne bottles, and finger snacks were carted in by smiling waiters from their go-to events company.
"Come on, let's go mingle," Matthew pulled him up from his seat, and for fifteen minutes, Liam mindlessly circulated the room, sipping champagne he couldn't taste.
"So what's the deal?" his cousin bumped his shoulder as they watched Eden and Lydia giggle at something on the latter's phone. "Is she still mad at you?"
Liam nodded but didn't offer more. His cousins were aware of his fight with Eden, but they didn't know what it was about. Hell, he still didn't know why she was furious with him over a discussion he'd had with Laura three years ago about a vasectomy that never happened.
"You gotta suck it up and get on your knees," Matthew said and reached for his second glass. "I mean, if Eden's still unhappy with you, what are the chances she'll introduce me to Rapunzel?"
"Her name is Cassandra," Liam frowned, regretting telling him he'd run into her in Forrest Creek a week ago when he picked Eden up for their meeting with Randolph because Matthew's been angling for a meeting with her since then. He had run out of excuses and reasons why it was a terrible idea.
"Of course I know her name," his cousin smirked, "I just think Rapunzel suits her better."
Liam sighed and forced himself to eat something from the plate of hors d'oeuvre Clara had shoved in his hands before she left the room to finalise his schedule for his upcoming tour of all their overseas depots.
"So, when will you apologise?" His cousin demanded. He wasn't planning to let this go, and it pissed Liam off to no end.
"Why do you assume I did something wrong?" He gritted his teeth, his gaze following Eden's every move.
He couldn't believe how okay and normal she was when his life was in complete chaos.
He was so tempted to walk up to her and drag her out of the room so they could have it out.
He needed to know and understand why she had kept his son from him. It wasn't two days, or two weeks, or two months. It was two fucking years—
"—It doesn't matter if you're right or wrong," Matthew carried on. "If you want to end this standoff quickly, swallow your pride and apologise."
"I won't," Liam shook his head. Not this time, at least.
Even if he didn't know about Aiden, he wouldn't beg Eden for mercy because he did nothing wrong this time.
She chose to allow Laura to get in her head because she didn't trust him. Finding out about Aiden and knowing she had intentionally kept him in the dark for so long drove that point home even more.
