Belong to the Lycan Alpha novel Chapter 2

Lilac couldn’t sit still anymore, nor could she enjoy the party when Aiden kept avoiding her like a plague. He would come up with the most ridiculous excuses just to avoid being with her alone while ignoring all her questions about why he was distancing himself from her.

There was no hug, kiss, or even a little bit of explanation from him ever since he returned to this pack about his behavior. Lilac couldn’t even congratulate him properly and tell him how happy she was to see him return.

She couldn’t demand his attention, because they were surrounded by so many people here in the main yard, while the woman, who came with Aiden this morning was staying in his bedroom. What was the meaning of that? Luna Jasmine and Alpha James didn’t tell her anything and only said; we will talk about it after the party.

Probably, this was her paranoid self that was speaking, but she constantly felt the rest of the warriors, who had gone to the war with Aiden, looking at her with pity.

And after long hours of agonising waiting, when Lilac almost turned into a taut ball of emotions, they finally sat down together in the Alpha’s study room.

Lilac sat beside Luna Jasmine. She was holding her hand tightly with unshed tears filling her eyes. Why was she crying?

“What is happening here? What do you know that I don’t know about? Who is that woman?” All Lilac’s questions would meet with silence.

“Let’s wait for Aiden to come, he will explain everything,” Alpha James finally said. Since Lilac couldn’t go against the Alpha, she stopped asking questions.

They waited for another fifteen minutes in silence, until Aiden stepped into the study room with 'her', the woman from this morning. They walked together and the sight of it left Lilac uncomfortable. She felt this bad omen about what was going to happen, but she was still in denial.

There was no way Aiden would do such a thing to her. They were destined mates, they were destined to be together. There must be a misunderstanding somewhere here.

And there, he sat down, next to that woman, still trying to avoid looking her in the eyes. How could this man charge toward the enemy without fear, but couldn’t even find the courage to look at her?

“Mother, father,” Aiden spoke after he cleared his throat. He looked so nervous, as he clasped his hands together. His habit. “The woman I mentioned in my letter, Ruby.” He glanced at the woman who was sitting by his side and cleared his throat again. “I will take her as my chosen mate.”

There was not a single acknowledgement whatsoever of Lilac, who was sitting there, dumbfounded with Luna Jasmine still holding her hands, as if trying to keep her together from what she was going to hear.

“What about me?” Lilac asked. “What am I to you now? Why are you doing this to me? Who is that girl?” Lilac couldn’t help it, as she asked all the questions that had been swarming her mind. Her body was shaking when the worst possibility really came true before her eyes.

Aiden took a deep breath before he lifted his head and then looked Lilac in the eyes for the first time ever since he returned. However, she could see nothing, but a man that was drowning in self guilt and shame, trying to look for justification of his own actions.
