Dexter detected a hint of underlying meaning and chuckled lightly.

“Lotus seeds, ginseng, and rosemary,” Josie enunciated. She then reached out, lifting his chin and forcing him to meet her gaze. “These are all nourishing ingredients. What's really going on with your health?”

Dexter still allowed her to proceed with her actions, much like a cat being stroked. “She's overreacting. There's really nothing wrong. Are you worried about me?”

Josie abruptly pulled her hand away, her expression growing serious. “I simply don't want my child to live in constant fear. If you don't tell me, I'll ask Juliette.”

After she finished speaking, she attempted to stand up. However, Dexter effortlessly grabbed her wrist, pulling her back to where she was.

This position had her sitting on his lap.

“Sometimes my heart doesn't get enough blood supply, and I occasionally find it hard to breathe, but it's nothing a little medication can't fix. I'm perfectly fine now, aren't I?”

Dexter spoke lightly as if it truly didn't matter. His tone was deliberately softened, carrying a hint of appeasement.

Josie was facing him, his arms wrapped around her slender waist, half of his face buried in her neck. He could smell a faint scent of wood. “You're worried about me, aren't you?”

Josie was deep in thought, pondering over the consequences of insufficient blood supply to the heart. It couldn't possibly be as simple as he had stated. Perhaps the description provided by Juliette earlier was the real situation.

“What an overly confident.” She intended to push him away.

“Who is overly confident?”

“You.”

Dexter curled his lips. Hearing this phrase for the first time, he found it quite intriguing. “You're worried.”

“Why should I worry? It's not like I'm the one who's unwell.”

Looking at him directly like that was somewhat thrilling, causing her cheeks to flush slightly. She wanted to pull away and leave but was once again held back by Dexter.

This time, he directly pinched her in front of him. “No dodging allowed.”

Upon realizing what he wanted, Josie exclaimed, “You want to do it here? Have you lost your mind?”

He neither confirmed nor denied it.

He held her hand against his chest. “Listen... Can you hear how fast it is?”

Josie was taken aback. This isn't Dexter's style. Yet, his expression is so steadfast, so serious.
