The sky was gloomily dark. Laura was accompanying Claudia, but Zach was nowhere to be seen.

“After all, it was someone who had raised her for many years. Don't take it to heart, Father, Mother.”

The two elders joined hands, both carrying the same sorrow. “Seeing Leanne like this brings me great comfort.”

Mark sighed. “She's dutiful, very persistent. Thinking about everything she's done before, she's got guts. She is definitely my daughter.”

The more he spoke, the more resolute and powerful he became.

Laura nodded, tentatively asked, “Shall we head back to rest?”

Mark's gaze, however, fell upon the man smoking under the magnolia tree. His stare seemed to carry a weight, leaving one breathless with just a single glance.

“Mr. Olsen.” Dexter respectfully greeted and promptly extinguished his cigarette.

“How's Justin holding up emotionally? If he's willing, he can stay with the Olsen family so he doesn't have to feel burdened.”

A faint smile flickered across Dexter's face. “That's quite challenging.”

“I know, but for the sake of Leanne, I'm willing to give it a shot.”

“He's still just a young lad with ambitions and dreams that reached for the skies. It's best not to force him.”

“What ambitions does he have? I'd be glad to lend him a hand.”

The magnolia petals fell, creating ripples in the small pond.

“Don't worry, I will take care of it,” said Dexter.

Mark let out a sigh, falling silent for a long while. As the day had turned into night, the cold was inevitable. He gave a wave of his walking stick, indicating that he was leaving.

When Josie stepped out of the room, she immediately noticed Mark's slightly hunched figure. Leaning on a cane, he was gradually disappearing into the night.
