“Your father has always been that way. He thrives on compliance. If you just soften your stance a bit, he won't give you a hard time.” Sitting in the backseat, Laura was flipping through some documents as she spoke. “Besides, you are his precious daughter.”

Josie hugged some documents to her chest, not really agreeing with Laura.

“I may be feeling a little anxious, but I don't want to compromise.”

Laura glanced at her and chuckled. “Even at this point, you still refuse to compromise. It's impressive how confident you are.”

“It seems like you know him better than I do.” Josie's thoughts were hidden deep within her. “A group of high-ranking members from Olsen Group visited the hospital today. It seemed like they were there to inquire about Mark's condition. What do you think?”

Laura paused slightly in the midst of flipping through the documents, feigning indifference. “Oh, it's been the norm these past couple of years. Those ambitious folks have been hoping for Mark's downfall. Dealing with these matters has been particularly troublesome for me.”

“It must have been hard on you,” Josie said with a faint smile.

Laura twirled her pen as she replied, “I'm just the workhorse of your Olsen family, nothing more.”

Her thoughts, however, drifted back to earlier, when Mark was lying in the hospital bed. Aside from giving her instructions about work matters, he had mentioned one other thing.

“When you have some free time, try to bring Leanne to the corporation more often for her to learn. We're not aiming for quick success, but it would be good to get to know some people. You've been carrying this burden for so many years, so it's about time you lighten your load.”

Laura's expression had remained calm and composed, yet her mind was already calculating. The underlying message was clear - she needed to pave the way for Josie.

At the time, she had forced a smile and nodded.

Josie had never visited Olsen Group's headquarters before. The building was situated not far from the city center, near the coast. Just a bit further ahead was Wavery's convention center, offering great convenience for economic exchanges.

Laura led Josie into the deepest part of the building where there was an elevator exclusively for her use. With a ding, they arrived at the top floor.

As soon as the elevator doors slid open, numerous employees waiting outside to deliver their work reports could be seen.

“Ms. Brandel, the auditor has already arrived for the upcoming financial meeting.”

“Ms. Brandel, the proposal from yesterday has been revised. Please have a look.”
