Dexter gave a soft hum of acknowledgment.

Preston hesitated for a long while, wanting to speak but holding back. In the end, he said nothing, his gaze falling on Josie, who was engrossed in reading her documents.

She truly seemed to care about nothing. She didn't even bother to lift her head, appearing completely unafraid of Dexter.

In the past two years, Preston had not encountered a woman like this.

When Larry led Preston out, the former said, “Mr. Kaufman, there's no need to take it to heart. Mr. Russell must have had his reasons for asking you to step back. All you need to do during this time is to lie low.”

“I know. I'm just worried. Morgan is not an easy person to deal with.”

Outside the window lattice, Preston was watching Dexter's figure.

Dexter moved to Josie's side. He noticed her unpleasant expression and intensified hostility. “What's wrong?” he asked.

Josie's hand, clutching the documents, was trembling. “Laura has a personal agenda.”

So that's the reason. Feeling relieved, Dexter took a seat beside her. “When did you discover it?”

“A year after you left, during a business encounter, I discovered her behind-the-scenes manipulation.” Josie was still somewhat reluctant to accept it. “This could lead to jail time.”

Thinking it was child's play, Dexter gave a cold laugh. “At this level, anyone with courage and insight wouldn't be scared of such a thing.”

Her hands were still trembling. Dexter reached out to cover them and asked, “Have you made up your mind yet?”

Josie remained silent, her gaze hollow as she simply stared into space.

Her silhouette seems lonely and desolate. Preston stared at it and turned to Larry. “I've heard about Mr. Russell's situation. The car accident two years ago was no accident. It was all for this woman, wasn't it?”

Larry adjusted his glasses. He initially didn't want to reveal too much, but Preston was too persistent. “Indeed.”

Preston then said, “So, is she—”

Who would dare? I merely helped Juliette once, and Dexter immediately pulled me off the most important project. I can't even begin to imagine the consequences if I were to harm Josie. Preston then asked through his gritted teeth, “Is she worth it?”

In Preston's eyes, Dexter was fully capable and more than qualified to lead Russell Group toward a larger market. Yet, he had surprisingly chosen to step back, to retreat into the shadows, all for the sake of a woman. Honestly, it's not a worthy trade.
