Crises in Love novel Chapter 156

I was nestled comfortably on the couch, my full attention devoted to the unfolding drama online.

Suddenly, Jaylan burst into the room, causing me to jump out of my skin. Instinctively, I shot him a fierce glare. Whether he was unnerved by guilt or the intensity of my gaze, I could not tell. But my eyes had stopped his hasty strides.

As he loomed over me, I finally registered his unexpected return. Was he desperate? What was he doing here? I stared back at him, cold as ice, intent on discerning his true purpose, but his next move took me utterly by surprise.

Jaylan, always so proud and aloof, fell to his knees before me with a soft 'thud'.

I narrowed my eyes but remained silent, waiting for him to speak first.

"Honey, I'm sorry. I know you saw those things online. But just hear me out! I can explain." He implored, inching closer towards me on his knees, desperate and hurried.

Yet, I maintained my icy demeanor and didn't utter a word, curious to see how he'd play his hand.

Moreover, I needed time to think about my next move. His sudden appearance disrupted my previous plan. Surly, premature plans could not catch the change of situations.

Seeing my unyielding silence, Jaylan moved even closer. "Honey, you have to hear me out. Those are baseless rumors. You can't believe a word of it. Those commenters are so irresponsible. They're just defaming me. They're making up things that don't exist. You know why Marissa has become my assistant. It was at your behest that I trusted her. I won't deny that she's devoted to her work, but I know nothing about her personal life!"

He had carefully chosen and managed his words to absolve him of any responsibility, shifting the blame onto me instead. I had underestimated his silver-tongued skill.

Suddenly, I threw my head back and laughed out loud. The laughter was so forceful that tears welled in my eyes and streamed down my face. Listen. He was desperate to flip the narrative at the moment. He must think I'm a complete fool!

Taken aback by my reaction, Jaylan reached out to hold me, but I reared back and roared, "Get out of my face!"
