Caroline laughed. “I understand, Mr. Queen. My mom’s the same. She always mentions how great other daughters are and says I’m stupid. She scolded me for being incompetent and useless.

“My mom compares me to Celine often too. She said Celine was better than me and that she wouldn’t have trained me as her successor if it weren’t for the rules set by the Fishers’ ancestors. Anyway, she hates me in many aspects.”

Caroline’s tone was nonchalant, but Hayden could sense the sadness in it.
