Fitch couldn't quite grasp why he was driven to act on impulse; perhaps it was that shimmering gaze that had sparked something within him.

The rush of adrenaline was simply irrepressible.

Even now, his body was still abuzz with excitement.

Reaching for his pack of cigarettes, he intended to light another one, only to find the pack empty.

He'd been hitting them hard lately.

Leaning back, he undid the top two buttons of his shirt, as if needing extra air to breathe easier.

After calming himself for an hour, he finally hit the gas and drove back home.

In the dead of night, Zoey spiked a fever.

Fumbling, she managed to swallow a couple of pills; hearing Ozzy's bark, she weakly stretched a hand to the bedside, absently petting him.

Weighed down by the heat of the fever, her mind was foggy.

Fitch's scent still lingered on the bed, as if he hadn't really left.

Burying her face in the pillow, she clung to that lingering trace of him for comfort, and her body was still radiating with feverish warmth.

Unbeknownst to her, the photo of Fitch dropping her off had already made its way to Mia's hands.

Mia had been convinced by Sharon to stay put in the hospital room that afternoon.

The whole ordeal was her own doing; she wanted to see Zoey and her family destroyed.

As Mia looked at the photo in her grasp, her face turned ashen.

"So, my brother stayed at her place for hours?"

The man before her dared not meet her eyes and nodded slowly.

Mia was trembling with rage, clenching her fists so tightly that her palms began to bleed.

She couldn't keep this up; Fitch was already growing suspicious.

If she continued with her schemes, he'd wash his hands of her.

She needed a permanent solution.

Her lips pressed into a thin line; the thought of Zoey seducing her brother again made her blood boil.

What was Fitch thinking? How could he fall for Zoey?

No, she couldn't let Zoey destroy her life and still marry into a wealthy family.

She got out of bed and returned to the Haskins residence.

Sharon was actually pleased to see her.

"Mia, didn't I tell you to spend a few more days at the hospital?"

Mia's staged suicide had been meant to frame Zoey, but now that Zoey was free, the charade was pointless.

She had to think of some other tactics.

She felt like she was going mad; it seemed a wild beast within her was slamming against its cage.

"Mom, I need a favor."
