She had intended to come clean with him after Listina's surgery, but the right moment just never seemed to come up.

Now he must have run into her dad. Did Abner go straight to Felix? Panic set in.

"Carol, so you're really a high society girl, huh?"

Carol's first instinct was to hang up the phone. After she did, regret washed over her, and she quickly called him again.

But Felix didn't pick up. He just watched the phone vibrate on the table, a cigarette dangling between his fingers as he stared off into space.

Carol knew she was in trouble and immediately called Abner. This time, Abner picked up promptly.

"Dad, what on earth did you say to Felix?!"

Hearing her accusatory tone, Abner couldn't help but laugh with irritation.

"If someone hadn't snapped a photo of you two, how long were you planning on keeping this from me? Have you been avoiding coming home these past few months because of this guy?"

Carol felt a twinge of guilt. She had been deceiving both ends and knew the day of reckoning would come, but it had arrived sooner than expected.

"Dad, I really like him. We've been together for nearly six months, and he's been taking such good care of me."

"Weren't you well taken care of at the Miller family villa by those maids?"

Carol felt a sting at the comparison, as if Felix were just a caretaker.

"Dad, I know my past relationships haven't been the most reliable, but this time it's different. I really care for him, and if you got to know him, you'd like him too."

"Carol, I don't have the time nor the desire to get to know him. I'm giving you three days to break it off and come back home."

His tone made it clear that he was seriously angry. Carol was at a loss for words, but then she heard Abner continue.

"I know you, Carol. You're just smitten with his looks. Come back, and I'll find you someone better-looking, someone who matches our family's status. You're young; don't be foolish."

With that, Abner hung up.

He knew his daughter too well. She had never really struggled in life, and to her, earning 400 a month was no different from earning 4 million. Once she experienced what it was like to earn just 400, she would realize how fortunate she was.

Abner gave her three days and had no intention of persuading her. He had his own methods.

Carol stared at the dark screen, feeling dejected. She lay on the couch in defeat, but then she thought of Felix and forced herself to sit up.

Breaking up with Felix was not an option. Just the thought of it made her whole body ache. She tried calling Felix again, but he still didn't answer.

Carol also didn't go to her job at the diner anymore. Her secret was out, so she just wallowed in her apartment, hoping each day that he'd come back to her. But two days passed without a word from Felix or him coming over to cook for her.

If she were in Felix's shoes, she'd probably be angry too. Carol didn't want to wait any longer. She got up and headed to the hospital. Listina hadn't woken up yet, so she waited outside the room, like a hunter lying in wait.
