As she was being loaded into the helicopter, she felt a sudden flash of anger surging through her, and she slapped Felix across the face.

His cheek swelled, and as he reached out his hand, Carol instinctively braced for a blow, squeezing her eyes shut. But instead of pain, she felt the click of a seatbelt.

Confused, she wondered if Felix had lost his mind. He seemed unfazed by her strike. What was he planning? The last time he played his cards, the Millers were wiped out. What was his endgame this time?

The pilot, unable to contain himself, let slip, "Ms. Miller, Mr. Abner is at the wedding venue waiting for you."

Carol froze, then laughed bitterly, "Classic Felix, bringing my dad out just to see his daughter's disgrace. To see the man who put him behind bars marry his daughter is like a public execution of the heart. You always did play dirty."

The pilot wanted to explain that Mr. Brown had issued a declaration of forgiveness last night and that Abner had been released, but a look from Felix made him fall silent.

Watching Carol's scornful smile and her eyes full of enmity, Felix couldn't help but laugh.

She didn't understand his laughter; actually, she found it utterly sarcastic that he could still smile at a time like this.
