When Fitch emerged from the conference room, he immediately saw Sharon waiting in his office, her face dark with displeasure.

"Why is Zoey at your villa?" she demanded, her tone accusatory.

Fitch's expression turned cold at the mention of Zoey. "Did you go and start trouble with her?"

Sharon had initially planned to press further, but his demeanor sent a chill down her spine. She rarely saw her son display any emotion other than his usual calm. Fitch, along with his childhood friends Ian and Tyler Bennitt, had grown up under her watchful eye. While the others went through phases of rebellion, Fitch always remained the picture of obedience and propriety. Seeing him angry was a rarity.

"What do you mean 'start trouble'? She slapped me! I'm your mother, and she dared to strike me, showing no respect. And after we all thought she had died, her sneaking back like this clearly means she's trying to manipulate you! Fitch, I do not approve of her joining the Haskins family."

Fitch's face darkened as he slowly sat down in his office chair. "Stay away from her in the future."

Sharon thought she had misheard him. It took her a couple of minutes to process his words, and then, in shock, she exclaimed, "What did you say?"

"I won't let her come out to see you either. Whether you approve of her joining the Haskins family doesn't matter. I do. I approved it four years ago. Besides, we're still legally married. We're husband and wife."

Sharon was livid. She had never seen Fitch so biased towards any woman before. "Fitch, don't you have any doubts about what happened four years ago? Her sudden reappearance, and now you're supporting her in everything. She's clearly aiming for this."

"Mom." Fitch's tone was ice-cold. "Don't bring up Zoey in front of me. I can't afford to lose her again, so I'll side with her unconditionally."

If it weren't for the lingering sunlight outside, Sharon would have thought she was in a nightmare. She had always wondered what kind of woman Fitch would marry. Given his personality, any decent and dignified woman suitable to be a wife would do; he never showed much interest in romantic affairs. It was hard for her to imagine he would ever speak of unconditional support for someone.
