When Zoey stepped out of the kitchen, her cheeks were still a rosy hue.

By chance, Nolan caught sight of her, raising an eyebrow before becoming even more convinced that Mommy always got shy around Daddy.

Was this what liking someone was all about?

Hadn't Daddy said once that a girl's blush was worth more than anything?

He immediately felt a surge of happiness. As long as Mommy liked Daddy, they could recognize each other sooner.

As Zoey settled back into the couch, it was clear as day that Nolan's mood had taken a turn for the better.

It was rare for the boy to wear his heart on his sleeve, but in the short time Zoey had been here, he had slowly started to open up.

Fitch hadn't lied to her; her presence indeed had a positive effect on Nolan's condition.

After dinner, as the clock struck seven in the evening, Zoey caught wind of the news about a grand fireworks show happening tonight, just about two miles from the mansion.

The itch to see it grew within her, and noticing Nolan had already fallen asleep, she decided to discuss it with Fitch.

"I'm thinking of stepping out for a bit."

Fitch, paperwork in hand, seemed to flinch at her words.

Feeling a bit awkward, Zoey added, "Nolan's asleep, and I heard there's a fireworks show in Greenfield tonight. Mr. James, a renowned fireworks artist, is behind it. I'd love to check it out."

Fitch didn't respond, prompting Zoey to turn around.

"I'll be back in three hours."

She had barely taken a few steps when she heard footsteps behind her.

"I'll come with you."

"There's no need. I can have the driver take me."

For some reason, she felt Fitch wasn't too thrilled about it.

Sitting in the same car, Zoey couldn't shake off the chilly vibe between them.

She had never been to Greenfield before, yet the fleeting landscapes through the window felt eerily familiar.

Several times, she could even guess the names of the buildings they passed, leading to a growing silence between them.
