Maja thought she had nailed the look of worry and was about to head to the hospital when Connie called.

"Penny, when did Coco go missing? I'll come to help you look."

Connie’s enthusiasm took Maja aback, and she didn't know how to respond.

"About a day ago."

Connie seemed more worried than if she had lost her own dog.

"Where are you? I'll come over to check the surveillance footage together."

"No need, I've posted a message on Facebook. My old friends will keep an eye out for me, and Coco is pretty smart."

"No matter how smart, Coco is still a dog. There are lots of dog nappers these days. I've messaged Ian to help look for Coco too, but he hasn't replied."

Maja thought to herself that he had not replied to her and even held her dog hostage.

She couldn't figure out what Ian was thinking.

But he had started to approach her car as soon as she had parked. He must have recognized her license plate.
