"Where have you been?"

She initially wanted to say the bar, but worried Ian would come, she made up an excuse.

"I'm working overtime."

"Mind your rest."

Both of them were tired from the day, and she was still slugging away. Could her body even take it?

"Your aunt told me Connie has been sleep-talking all day. I asked her what she said, but she wouldn't spill. Said we'd know when Connie woke up. Ian, did you guys see anyone else when you were at the tower?"

Ian's heart skipped a beat. Had Connie mentioned something about Penny?

If Grandpa found out that Connie's situation was related to Penny, he wouldn't let her off the hook.

"The higher-ups are already investigating the kidnappers' identities. They all snuck in illegally. There's a lot of pressure at the border recently, plus some insiders are collaborating with them. Otherwise, they wouldn't have had access to so many guns."
