It's nighttime where Ian was.

He hung up the phone and took a swig of the nearby booze, and something didn't feel right.

If only Maja were here to enjoy the beautiful view.

There's a swimming pool with a view of the most bustling scene in North America, fine wine, and fresh fruits.

He could swim with her in the pool, kiss her.

When he's in a good mood, he could even put her on the edge of the pool, holding her by the legs, making out in that position.

He shouldn't think like this.

His fingers trembled slightly, gripping the glass, so he set it down.

His phone rang again, this time from Fitch.

When Ian came to North America, he had his people investigate who tried to kill Maja that night. The results must be out now.

Fitch calling him now could only mean it's about Eric.

For some reason, just thinking of this name tonight, his grip on the glass nearly shattered it.

He answered the call, and sure enough, it was Fitch's voice.

"Ian, we found Eric's fingerprints again. I'm pretty sure now he's alive and in Greenfield. About his previous research, I finally got some leads. North America has been conducting secret research these years. It's a weapon, but unlike traditional cold weapons, this one targets the human brain. They've never given up on human experiments."

Ian frowned, "Human experiments?"

"Yes, you know there is still at war with several other countries. Their research violates humanitarian principles. Over twenty years ago, some countries who knew about it sent people to negotiate and stop them, even sparking a protest movement. But researchers just moved their lab to a secret location, never stopping. They've supposedly made some significant progress."

Ian lit a cigarette, deep in thought.

He said, "So, the data my brother collected has something to do with this research?"

"Possibly."

"Did you find out what the research is specifically?"

"They're very secretive. Just finding this much info risked getting the whole Haskins family expelled."

Ian brushed water droplets off his hair, lying back in the sun lounger.

If he's still alive, he'll show up someday. If he's not showing up now, he must have his reasons.

"Ian, I've been thinking. When Eric supposedly died abroad, could he have been discovered by this secret lab? Do you think they could have used him for experiments for a while?"

Ian froze, feeling a chill down his spine.

He asked, "What are you implying?"

"Think about it. These guys are doing living experiments. Eric was once caught by them. With his genius mind, how could they let him go easily? So, his not showing up now could be related to the experimental results. Also, didn’t I mention there's been an increase in people smuggling into the country? Eric's been missing for so long it's likely the experimental results are affecting him, making him too scared to show his face. I even suspect the experimental data he took is crucial to them, crucial to the correct experimental results. So they must know Eric's alive. That's why they came to Windhelm looking."

The theory sounded plausible.

But what Ian can't accept was the possibility of Eric being the subject of these experiments.
