Ian thought she would come back soon. After waiting for ten minutes and not seeing her, he asked Jeff, who was nearby.

"Did she leave?"

Jeff shook his head. "Ms. Pennyfeather hasn't had dinner yet. She's eating downstairs. Do you want her to stay?"
